Should international students and scholars expect problems during inspection at the port of entry to the United States? To ensure a smooth process, many seek answers to a variety of questions and concerns. These include potential inspection or confiscation of electronic devices, requesting access to personal social media accounts, their legal rights during the inspection process, and access to legal counsel.

What information can you give them, and how can you help? In this NAFSA e-Learning Seminar, we’ll address these questions; review the applicable laws and regulations; and discuss the role and scope of authority of U. S. Customs and Border Protection.

Learn from experts, including an immigration attorney who is the current chair of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) U.S. Customs and Border Protection Liaison Committee. Steve Springer, NAFSA’s director of regulatory practice liaison, will provide background information; discuss the problems that NAFSAns are seeing; offer tips for informing students and scholars; and address NAFSA’s related liaison efforts.
