Bridging the Gap: Translating Experiential Learning into Career Skills

Many students will describe their study abroad experiences as "life-changing" - but what does that mean? How can students leverage their international experiences outside of the world of study abroad? This interactive session will discuss how international educators can help students connect their experiences abroad with their personal and professional development. Sharing strategies used by both a one-person study abroad office and a provider, we will introduce ideas for implementing resume workshops, guiding students through an exploration of career values, and assessing skills gained while abroad. Together, we will workshop ways to engage students in critical reflection to translate their life-changing moments into evidence of career readiness.

The A1B1C1's of English Language Assessment: Using CEFR as a Guide to Future-Proof Prociency Requirements for Admission

The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is an internationally recognized standard for language proficiency assessment. While some higher education institutions have taken an approach to accepting any recognized assessment aligned to CEFR, many continue to continue to list individual assessments and required score ranges, which in turn need to be regularly updated as assessments adjust their scoring or new assessments come to market. This session will begin with an overview of the CEFR and learner outcomes at the various levels. We will then explore the current state of English proficiency.
